Having chosen the original name of Hermanus, Hermanuspietersfontein, we can rightfully lay claim to a heritage and place upon which we will build reputation not only for the quality of our own brand, but also to add to the importance of place of Walker Bay in the South African wine industry.
Since Hermanus Pieters's purpose and passion was to teach the children of the Overberg farmers through the medium of Dutch - the forerunner to Afrikaans in South Africa - we decided in our own small way to immortalize Hermanus Pieters through the name of our cellar and wines by using only Afrikaans copy on our labels and packaging. We see our wines as members of a family, with traditional names such as Die Arnoldus, Die Martha, Die Bartho, Kleinboet, Swartskaap en Bloos, each with their own personalities and idiosyncrasies.
