Buitenverwachting meaning "Beyond Expectation" forms part of the original Constantia estate founded by Simon van der Steen in 1685. Buitenverwachting is located on the Cape Peninsula only 15km South of Cape Town. The close proximity to the cold Atlantic Ocean as well as deep decomposed granite soils combined with a high annual rain fall allow for aromatic and full bodied wines.
Winemakers Hermann Kirschbaum and Brad Paton focus on the unique characters of the valley and allow their expression with minimal influence. The white wines (Sauvignon blancs / Chardonnay) are kept for 8 months on lease, while reds (Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Petite Verdot and Malbec) are matured in French oak barrels for up to three years. |
